Peoria 2005

The Peoria Handball Club hosted its annual tournament on November 4th and 5th 2005. Over 80 players vied for championships of various brackets. The largest event was the Men’s Open with 16 competitors. The semi finals pitted Jake Komsthoeft against Mike Munson who won in two with scores of 2 and 9 while Bill Mehilos was battling Dave Munson in three games with scores of (19), 19 and 2. In the finals Bill Mehilos again showed his superior conditioning by winning in 3 with scores of (19), 19 and 2.

In the Open Drop down Contender’s division, Chip Morales defeated John Iglasius in 3 with scores of (7),5, 2. 13 women competed for the Women’s Open title with Beth Heim beating school mate Lauren Ritter 11 and 10. The Women’s Open doubles had Beth Heim slamming with Diane Luttrell with a win over Mary Masalskis and Katie Stack 7 and 20.

The other double event was the 93+ Doubles Karl Johnson and Steve Matheny defeated Mark Kohnle and Dave Schafer 18 and 9. Thanks to all who participated and Peoria looks forward to hosting again next year. Also special thanks to the kids from Southwest Missouri and Lake Forest for playing.

In the B division, 8 players competed with Josh Osburn defeating Ron Payne. The consolation champ is Peoria’s Jamie Rodriguez. There were 8 players in the C Division with Mary Masalskis defeating Jim London 12 and 6. Schuyler Semar defeated Jim London in the consolation finals 9 and 11.

The Masters division was a round robin of four players with Vance McInnis winning and Jeff Wesson taking second. The Golden Masters had 8 players with defending Champion Bob Milliken losing in 3 games to Nick Wilson for the championship 14, (20),2. The consolation champ was Steve Wanless who defeated Art Gray by scores of 16,20.

The Super Golden Masters had 4 players who competed in a round Robin event with Bill Gardner of Peoria winning and John Thurston taking second place.

The open doubles had 8 teams with the Munson brothers taking on Bill Mehilos and Mark O’Leary. Results pending.
