Overland Park, Kan. - Chris Tico pulled off a major upset,
bouncing Pete Crouser, 10, 0, (8), (6), 4, out of the qualifying
round and guaranteeing himself a spot at the next two Pro Stops.
After jumping out to a two game lead, Tico held off Crousers
furious rally to hold on to for an 11-4 tiebreaker win. In the
second round Crouser ran into John Henning, who took the first
game 11-10 and pushed Crouser to 10 points in the second before
going down in the last two, 11-0, 11-2. I guess I just
didnt have it today. Crouser said after the loss.
Emmett Peixoto blazed into the quarterfinals and qualified by
beating Andy Schad 4, 5, and 6. The new qualifier has not dropped
a game this tournament, and looks to be playing the best handball
of his young career.
Sean Lenning continued his excellent play and qualified for
the consecutive time with a convincing win over Bill Mehilos,
2, 5, 5. Perhaps the most exciting match of the afternoon was
in the second round, when Mehilos dug in from two games down
to oust the powerful Dessie Keegan, (2), (10), 9, 9, 8.
Tommy Little continued to dominate on his home turf routing
Tony Kracak, 6, 1, and 6 to qualify. Little has also not dropped
a game this tournament. Tony Kracek scored the first upset by
defeating James Bardwell in the second round, 9, 10, and 5.
